Deep Tissue Massage Wellington

Targeted release for tight shoulders, lower back & recovery — Lambton Quay

$140 · 60 minutes · Lambton Quay

Deep tissue, done properly

Deep tissue massage at Glowe Aesthetics is firm, focused work into the muscle layers that hold the most chronic tension — neck and upper back from desk work, lower back and glutes from sitting, calves and hamstrings from running and cycling. It's not a generic "press harder" session. Our therapists locate the specific bands of restriction and work them release-by-release, with constant feedback on pressure.

Sixty minutes is enough to thoroughly work two or three target areas. If you want full-body deep work, book the 90-minute option instead — there isn't time to do justice to head-to-toe in an hour.

Who it's for

Best suited to…

  • Office workers carrying tension across the shoulders and upper back
  • Runners, cyclists and gym-goers with tight glutes, hamstrings or calves
  • Recovery between heavy training blocks
  • Lower-back tightness from long-haul travel or driving
  • Anyone whose previous "relaxation" massages have felt too light

If you're new to massage, start with a relaxation session and step the pressure up from there. Deep tissue works best when your body has had a chance to learn what release feels like.

What to expect

Your appointment, step by step

1. Quick consultation — three minutes on where you're carrying it, any injuries, and how much pressure you want.

2. Hands-on work — 50 minutes of targeted deep tissue. We check in periodically on pressure, but you should also speak up the moment something doesn't feel right.

3. Finish & aftercare — five minutes to ease off, plus a quick guide on what to do tonight (water, warmth, gentle stretching) and what to avoid (heavy training, alcohol).

Total appointment time: 60 minutes door-to-door. Showers aren't on site — plan accordingly if you have meetings straight after.

Common Questions

Deep Tissue Massage FAQs

Is deep tissue massage painful?

It's firm, not painful. There can be a sensation of "good pressure" on tight knots, but we work to your tolerance — pressure goes up or down based on your feedback. If anything sharpens into actual pain, we ease off immediately.

How is deep tissue different from sports massage?

Deep tissue is pressure-focused work into deeper muscle layers — best for chronic tension and desk-related shoulder issues. Sports massage combines deeper work with stretching and assisted range-of-motion, oriented around training cycles and event prep or recovery. Both are $140 at Glowe; the therapist will help you pick on the day.

Should I get deep tissue before or after a workout?

Most clients book deep tissue on a rest day or at least 24 hours before or after a hard session. A flush-style sports massage works well post-workout; deeper pressure work is best scheduled when you don't have to perform later that day.

How much is deep tissue massage at Glowe?

$140 for a 60-minute session. The 90-minute Full Body option is $180 if you want longer to work through multiple areas thoroughly.

Will I be sore afterwards?

It's normal to feel mildly sore for 24 to 48 hours, similar to delayed muscle soreness after a workout. Drink water, take a warm shower or magnesium bath, and avoid heavy training the next day. Most clients report feeling lighter and looser by day three.
